Our New Nest

Wow, thank you so much for all the thoughtful notes about our party! It sure was such a special night though I was thankful to not cook all last week :)
Well, I promised pictures of our new roost so here you go! We still have some rooms to work on but here are some snapshots of where we spend most of our time. Now we just have to work on our back yard...which is a jungle! But we are up for the challenge and are looking forward to the all of the tomatoes and melons we will grow one day!
The Living Room: sufficient for reading, cozying and spying on the neighbors :) ...

My Office Nook: A place to inspire, create, and dream....

The Kitchen: My most favorite room of all, where I enjoy many meals shared with loved ones...

Laundry & Mud Room: a little nook to help me stay organized and tidy...

Master Bedroom: Where we leave behind the day every night and start fresh each morning...

Master Bath: A place to relax and clear the mind...

Family Den: A casual corner fit for fires, movies and rainy day reads...

Screen Porch: Where we lazily recline, listen to the sparrows and watch the oak trees sway...
Thanks for visiting our nest....if you are in the neighborhood come stop by for some tea and keep me company ;)
We are headed to the beach later this week for some much needed rest and I am in depserate need of some new reading material....what do you have on your summer reading list?

Gilead - Marilyn Robinson. An epistolary novel from a 70-ish year old congregationalist minister who finds out he's ddying to his seven year old son. Beautiful insight on sincere connection to the Lord amidst the mundane and unexpected times in life.
Wish you wonderful moments in this house spending with joy and peace! xo
Have you read Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez about a man named Florentino Ariza who waits 50 years to with a woman he loves...
Or, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, a coming of age story of an bright and imaginative Irish American girl.
Both were such addictive reads for me.
A wonderfully written group biography on the lives of the Shelleys, Hunts, Byron and Keats and how their complicated associations impacted their writing.
i am muddling thru Born to Run but i have One Day by David Nicholls on my wish list.
P.S. Love all your picture frames. Oh, and super jealous of your laundry/mud room with cubbies. MY DREAM!
Leslie, the bed is the Colette Bed from Crate and Barrel, we have it in "natural"

Was your wedding video shot by A. Bryan Johnson?
Thanks!
Debra, thank you! I love our white marble but learned quickly that it is VERY porous and hates citrus! As long as you use a sealant it will do just fine and maintain its sheen without staining. If you go the marble route I recommend looking online or asking the folks at Home Depot how to care for marble. If you take care of it then it will look great!
I am reading "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver, fantastic so far.
One of my favorite books that I've read in the past year is "Ahab's Wife" by Sena J. Naslund, about the wife of Ahab in Moby Dick. The writing simply transports you. :)
Enjoy your trip!
I'm currently reading The Eve Tree by Rachel Devenish Ford. Good so far!
Also - I have Italian white marble (mixed with black granite) in my kitchen. We entertain a lot and I have college kids (like small children however messes are bigger :) We sealed ours and I always wipe it down at the end of the day. That way, if something is accidently spilled, it won't have a chance to hurt the porous marble. Also helpful are cleaners and polish products that may be purchased at stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, and the like. Regardless of how careful we are, accidents DO happen. All of the "spots" add to the patina of the rock. I have no regrets about my choice and I love it.
ok, we have very similar homes. with the exception that your walls look so much whiter and brighter. we are in the process of picking a paint for our already white walls {benjamin moore "etiquette"}. but it's way too dingy and creamy. do you mind sharing you paint color.
thanks so much,
katie

Leslie, thanks for your input about the marble!!
Katie, our white paint on the walls doesn't have a name because we got a custom mix but it is by Sherman Williams. It is their pure white with a touch of black paint to give it a cool hue rather than warm (which can often come across dingy or dirty white).

PS: My favorite reads include anything by my all-time favorite author Paulo Coelho and Love in The Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
PSS: Did you make your own pillows?
As for books, I highly recommend The Help. I'm in the middle of it now and it's great.
The only motivation for me to get work done this summer is the promise of reading "A homemade life" - life stories and the recipes that accompanied them from the life of a friend of a friend of a friend (orangette's molly wizenberg) who eventually opened a restaurant/market....you prob already know about it but, I think you might have to write the southern sequel!
Love, Cara
I just finished reading Mere Christianity by CS Lewis and I loved it. Before that I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was great!
PS. I just found your blog and I LOVE IT!!

The frame above our bed is a salvaged window I found at an antique store :)
great beach read: "Saving CeCe Honeycutt"; I also loved Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society as suggested by LB.
Love the Jane Austen quote. Have you ever seen the "Jane Austen" font? It is beautiful. I've incorporated it into the paper goods for my twins' birthday party this weekend. Gotta admit, I was very excited when I found that font! I'm such a geek. :)
Have a sunny Sunday,
