Our New Nest

Wow, thank you so much for all the thoughtful notes about our party! It sure was such a special night though I was thankful to not cook all last week :)

Well, I promised pictures of our new roost so here you go! We still have some rooms to work on but here are some snapshots of where we spend most of our time. Now we just have to work on our back yard...which is a jungle! But we are up for the challenge and are looking forward to the all of the tomatoes and melons we will grow one day!

The Living Room: sufficient for reading, cozying and spying on the neighbors :) ...

My Office Nook: A place to inspire, create, and dream....

The Kitchen: My most favorite room of all, where I enjoy many meals shared with loved ones...

Laundry & Mud Room: a little nook to help me stay organized and tidy...

Master Bedroom: Where we leave behind the day every night and start fresh each morning...

Master Bath: A place to relax and clear the mind...

Family Den: A casual corner fit for fires, movies and rainy day reads...

Screen Porch: Where we lazily recline, listen to the sparrows and watch the oak trees sway...

Thanks for visiting our nest....if you are in the neighborhood come stop by for some tea and keep me company ;)

We are headed to the beach later this week for some much needed rest and I am in depserate need of some new reading material....what do you have on your summer reading list?

Gorgeous home, Caitlin! You have impeccable tastes!

Have you read Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez about a man named Florentino Ariza who waits 50 years to with a woman he loves...
Or, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, a coming of age story of an bright and imaginative Irish American girl.

Both were such addictive reads for me.

Oh, one more book, knowing how you love Bright Star: The Young Romantics by Daisy Hay...
A wonderfully written group biography on the lives of the Shelleys, Hunts, Byron and Keats and how their complicated associations impacted their writing.

Your home is beautiful - so fresh, crisp, and clean. I love your style and decor...and that kitchen!!! Oh, the fun I could have in your kitchen. What a beautiful space Caitlin, and I loved seeing your office. Was that where my new banner was created? If so, definitely a good place to inspire, create, and dream. :)

P.S. Love all your picture frames. Oh, and super jealous of your laundry/mud room with cubbies. MY DREAM!
Love your headboard. I've been looking at tufted and fabric neutrals to go with my new mateo bedding. Would you mind sharing the manufacturer? I've seem similar ones on line and I am still looking for best value and good quality.

beautiful nest you have created. I also adore your kitchen sink. as for books, have you read "animal, vegetable, miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver? Another book I'm devouring is "a meal with Jesus" by Tim Chester.
Thanks for all the book recommendations everyone!! Im going to the library today!

Leslie, the bed is the Colette Bed from Crate and Barrel, we have it in "natural"

Did you make your milk bath?

Was your wedding video shot by A. Bryan Johnson?
May 31, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertutti
Wow, wow and wow!! We are getting ready to do a kitchen remodel and I want marble BAD! But everyone is trying to talk me out of it - saying it stains etc. What is your experience with it so far. Again - you have done an incredible job - you should be oh so proud!
Thanks!
May 31, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDebra
Tutti, the milk bath is from Terrain and yes Bryan Johnson shot out video, LOVE him!

Debra, thank you! I love our white marble but learned quickly that it is VERY porous and hates citrus! As long as you use a sealant it will do just fine and maintain its sheen without staining. If you go the marble route I recommend looking online or asking the folks at Home Depot how to care for marble. If you take care of it then it will look great!

Your house is absolutely stunning...every piece stands out!

I am reading "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver, fantastic so far.

One of my favorite books that I've read in the past year is "Ahab's Wife" by Sena J. Naslund, about the wife of Ahab in Moby Dick. The writing simply transports you. :)

Enjoy your trip!

Sorry, I should probably clarify. She and Jonathan are some of our really good friends and I did not know that y'all were the ones that bought it! Congratulations it looks so great with all of our cool furniture in it :)

Must know where that ribbon-embossed/embroidered lamp shade is from in the living room! I mean, if you want it to be a secret, I understand. :) BUT IT'S GORGEOUS!

Thank you Coco!

Also - I have Italian white marble (mixed with black granite) in my kitchen. We entertain a lot and I have college kids (like small children however messes are bigger :) We sealed ours and I always wipe it down at the end of the day. That way, if something is accidently spilled, it won't have a chance to hurt the porous marble. Also helpful are cleaners and polish products that may be purchased at stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, and the like. Regardless of how careful we are, accidents DO happen. All of the "spots" add to the patina of the rock. I have no regrets about my choice and I love it.

i'm reading tom robbins' "jitterbug perfume". i have reread his descriptions of new orleans and paris at least ten times. you can smell the sap on the moss trees and feel the mist from cobblestones on st. germain.
ok, we have very similar homes. with the exception that your walls look so much whiter and brighter. we are in the process of picking a paint for our already white walls {benjamin moore "etiquette"}. but it's way too dingy and creamy. do you mind sharing you paint color.
thanks so much,
katie

Madeine, the lamp stand and shade are from my favorite store Anthropologie :)

http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?navAction=jump&id=063165&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS&color=004

Leslie, thanks for your input about the marble!!

Katie, our white paint on the walls doesn't have a name because we got a custom mix but it is by Sherman Williams. It is their pure white with a touch of black paint to give it a cool hue rather than warm (which can often come across dingy or dirty white).

Coco, your home is beyond beautiful! So inspiring and I just adore your zen lifesyle. And don't get me started on my complete love for your photography, you have inspired me quite a bit in my own photos. Congratulations on your lovely home, i'm so glad that you are all settled in.
Natasha xo
PS: My favorite reads include anything by my all-time favorite author Paulo Coelho and Love in The Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
PSS: Did you make your own pillows?

Really Caitlin?! It's sort of perfect. Like maybe Southern Living couldn't have decorated nearly that well and perhaps they should come by for a photo shoot for some magazine inspiration...or they could just use your pictures because they're perfect too. I love it! You've done a beautiful job. P.S. I have a really good friend in Birmingham who does silhouettes, so if you and Jordan ever want to replace those framed pictures with your own mugs, I could give you her email.

What an adorable lampshade. O.K., your blog is definitely going in my sidebar as a favorite to keep up with. It is amazingly well organized, creative, and just beautifully fresh. I wish I had more knowledge of graphic design! I struggle with changing the font on my banner!!

You should read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers if you haven't already. It's a feel good book about about listening to God, unconditional love, and forgiveness. And it's a really easy read...perfect for the beach! My younglife leader recommended it to me, and I loved it.
Jun 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPaylor
So precious Caitlin, I can remember how even when you were little everything was "just so" to your stylish little liking! (I wish I had that bug!) LOVE your new special spot, what a blessing...there's no place like home (anywhere you are but, esp. when your home is in your home city!)! Smart girl...I know, I did it too!

The only motivation for me to get work done this summer is the promise of reading "A homemade life" - life stories and the recipes that accompanied them from the life of a friend of a friend of a friend (orangette's molly wizenberg) who eventually opened a restaurant/market....you prob already know about it but, I think you might have to write the southern sequel!

Love, Cara

I love love love your home?? I must ask where your wall shelves are from and the super FAB frame above your bed!!

I just finished reading Mere Christianity by CS Lewis and I loved it. Before that I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was great!

PS. I just found your blog and I LOVE IT!!
Jun 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLB
Thank you LB! The wall shelves are actually from Velocity Art and Design and they are made by a company named Roost...how funny is that?!

The frame above our bed is a salvaged window I found at an antique store :)

great beach read: "Saving CeCe Honeycutt"; I also loved Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society as suggested by LB.

Your new home is just beautiful, Coco! I'm sure you will make many happy memories there.

Love the Jane Austen quote. Have you ever seen the "Jane Austen" font? It is beautiful. I've incorporated it into the paper goods for my twins' birthday party this weekend. Gotta admit, I was very excited when I found that font! I'm such a geek. :)
Have fun at the beach! Good reads: "The Hunger Games," "The Help," "The Red Tent," you need to "friend" me on www.goodreads.com to see all the good books I've recommended. Let's get together when you get back (at our new house!).

Beautiful! Just beautiful. I'm awkwardly printing these photos and stashing them in Shaun in my "inspiration box" where we keep ideas for our future roost :) One of my favorite books of all time is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, and one of her older fiction works The Poisonwood Bible.

Your kitchen and bathroom are gorgeous!! It's just the style I'd love in my house one day. Glad to see you're all settled in.
Thank you for showing us your new roost. And I have to say it's simply stunning! Homey and beautiful. Not to mention all those little details! Love your style, Coco. Shame I don't live in your neighborhood. Would love to drink a cup of tea with you in your jungle back yard.

Have a sunny Sunday,
Sini
