hello
My oh my has it really been weeks since I was doting on my sweet niece and reminiscing on how thankful I am for family? I wish I could say Ive been away enjoying the warmth of spring, sipping vanilla lemonade and reading Jane Eyre, but on the contrary I've been sick as a dog, coughing up half a lung and adorning our whole house with thousands of wads of tissue. Not a pretty sight indeed! However I am on the mend and can now taste my food which, I must say, is a huge blessing.
Now that I am out my stupor I feel I should catch everyone up on some new developments in the casa de coco and jojo. If you know us you know that we both have sensitive little tummies and after meeting with a new naturopath we are about to embark on a journey to get our bodies in tip top shape. Have any of you read Breaking The Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschald? The basis of the book is restoring the body naturally through a diet rich in fruits vegetables (especially raw) while eliminating all sugars, grains, starches and dairy. This is also deemed SCD, or Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It is not eliminating ALL carbohydrates but rather limiting them according to how they break down in our bodies.
Has anyone heard of this before? Ive been doing a lot of research, reading and investigating and continue to be amazed at the power of food and the vital role it plays on the health of our gut. If anyone has any tips or testimonies please share cause we could use the encouragement! We are challenged but excited for this new adventure but ultimately we will trust the Lord for healing and making our bodies whole!

hello!
i stumbled upon your lovely spot today and feel i've found the blog i've been waiting for. it's so charming!
i just love your lilacs, and can relate to the coughing of late. it's no fun to spend may with a cold.
concerning your upcoming diet, that is so exciting! about half of my family is on some sort of similar diet or detox, and they are all seeing wonderful results for their problems. (all of them with different health issues, too! food is powerful!)
Hey Coco...I haven't tried or heard of that one in particular, but (on the outside at least) it looks very similar to the Paleo diet that the guys in my Crossfit gym push. Paleo is gluten and dairy free with an emphasis on naturally occurring foods (as in paleolithic or caveman days, pre-agriculture). I thought of you all when reading about Paleo and it looked like a lot of their recipes would work for you. Good luck on your new venture!

Have a good one!

Good Morning,
Glad you are doing better!
I haven't heard of the book you are talking about but I've heard of plenty other good books, too, that are into healing our bodies the natural way--with food and herbs. I have a book called The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book by Jessica K. Black that I like to use--as well as other good cookbooks and websites online. I definitely notice a difference when I am eating healthy and when I'm not. I've come to realize that there are certain foods that seem to be okay for other people to eat but which aren't good for me and vice versa. I'm interested in the book you mentioned and will have to take a look. ;)
Wonderful that you are starting this new adventure!
I pray that this new change really improves your sweet health, and Jordans!
I've been seeing a Naturopath for a bit now and I have been doing something similar. I have seen amazing results so far. I just feel so much better too! Like Tyler, we heard alot about this through Crossfit and it falls in line with what my doctor has me doing also. Best of luck!
thanks for the tips everyone!! we are super excited for this new adventure!
That book is required reading for a holistic wellness course I am taking. I have it onhold at the library but may need to just get a copy myself. The diet you mention is one that I am hearing more and more about. Seems to be the way to go for many right now.
i just loooove your blog, your fotos and posts. swoon! and i couldn't help but stop by to ring in on what you said about food playing a vital role on your health... that's what my blog's about! (i'm a yoga teacher, holistic health counselor and interior designer). i know you've heard the term "you are what you eat", but it's really amazing how true this is. what you eat and the energy of food is significantly tied to how you feel... and if you want to feel great, eat good, real, whole foods prepared with love! thanks so much for the inspiration!
