Food Inc.
Happy Monday everyone! I hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend which thankfully was cooler than last week. We had a wonderful time with our friends in town and even managed to squeeze in a quick trip to Vashon Island to visit Sea Breeze Farm. We buy their raw milk and meat products at the farmers market so we thought it would be fun to visit the farm and see where our food is actually coming from.
We were inspired to track the food we eat after watching Food, INC., a documentary including Michael Pollen, writer of the New York Times best seller, The Omnivore's Dilemma. This extremely insightful movie gives you a small and disturbing glimpse into the American corporate food industry, revealing that our country continues to put profit above health by genetically modifying plants, over feeding and mistreating animals, putting farmers out of business, and turning the very food we consume into a science.
I was greatly touched by this film and applaud everyone who put it together. I am encouraged to buy locally, support our farmers, know where our food is coming from and stand against corporate America's attempt to commercialize and streamline the food we feed ourselves and our family.
If any of you have the opportunity to see this movie PLEASE see it! It is well worth the ten bucks and will encourage you and your loved ones to make a difference starting in your own kitchen.

This is on my list! It's not out in Bham, so we will Netflix it....Can't wait - PS, have you read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle? I think you might like it...It's not as scientific as the Michael Pollan books, but just as informative. Hope all is well! I'm excited to hear that Haley will be in Bham for a few months!
Sissy, if Food Inc. doesnt make its way to Bham it will be out on DVD in November. I have read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and loved it! Jordan and I want to one day have an edible landscape that we can live off of and share with others. For now we will enjoy the peas and carrots from our small garden :)
Im going to visit Haley next week and cant wait! We will be in Bham in September so maybe we can all hang out! Take care
Thanks so much for the mention and the visit to Vashon! We also have Food Inc. on our 'must see' list. Am enjoying exploring your blog; very nice!
