Family

This past weekend I had the pleasure and pure joy of visiting my beautiful (and very pregnant!) sister Haley, her hubby and sweet baby girl Charlotte. In a perfect world Haley and I would be next door neighbors, living in old, french-style cottages where we would garden, bake cookies, watch old musicals, and play numerous rounds of pounce all day long. And of course I would get to play with my beautiful neice at a moments notice. But in the real world we live a thousand miles a part and our visits with one another are few, but oh so sweet.

Whenever I spend time with my family I am always swept up in the comfort, camaraderie and support of the ones that love me and know me the most. It is in these precious times  I am most aware that many things I hold dear are in fact meaningless and my true treasures are the people around me. Why do I put so much energy in the wrong things: my computer, my phone, my job, money, my appearance....the list goes on. This life is too short to focus on such trivialities. Instead, I want to use my energy on others, especially my wonderful and growing family. Despite our differences and the many miles that separate us my family never fails to love and encourage me. They have seen me at my worst and always hope for my best.

I am so thankful for my time with Haley and her beautiful family. Thank you for reminding me of what is most important!

so true. Even though I am really trying to build my business, last night I heard this voice (I know whose it was) that simply said - kids first.

What a beautiful child! Thank you for the reminder that life is just too darn short to worry about the little things. Im going to play with my 4 year old right now! :-)

I recently just spent time with my family who lives thousands of miles away as well, and this article describes what I felt perfectly. Everything back home just paled in comparison! I have such good friends yet am not often around people who love me for who I am rather than if I'm fun to hang out with.

I'm so glad my friend told me about your blog, keep writing and taking beautiful pictures- you have a ready reader!

Beautiful pictures what kind of camera do you use? It looks like SLR film but is it just digital with photoshop?

What a lovely space you've created. A gorgeous vintage feel; thank you for sharing!

Stunning photos of your niece. She is beautiful. I know exactly how you feel - my nearest family members are in another state, and my sister is on the opposite coast. All the more reason to cherish those rare moments we have together. It does make me sad that my children don't have much opportunity to really know their relatives, but we all make our choices and just do our best, right? Have a great weekend. :) xo

She is just adorable! Those big blue eyes are captivating!!!!!

And you are absolutely right-we often place importance on things that we think matter, when in the grand scheme of things, they really....don't.

Have a fabulous weekend!
