Homemade Butter

I am all about making things from scratch because that is how people did it in the good old days plus there is somethig very rewarding and gratifying when making something from start to finish with your own hands. Sure I can go buy a tub of butter at the store but its so fun to make your own and I think it tastes way better than storebought!
Now let me clarify. You do not need this to make butter....

All you need is this...

And you will get this...

This is just too easy to pass up! All you have to do is place a carton (or however much you want) of heavy whipping cream in a stainless steel or glass bowl. Add a little salt if you want it salted but I prefer it without. Mix, and mix and mix. You will first make whipped cream. DONT be tempted to stop and eat the contents of the bowl!!! Keep going! Keep mixing and mixing and mixing until butter curds start to form and separate.
Once the buttter has formed strain the butter and remaining liquid through cheesecloth into a jar or bowl. Squeeze as much liquid from the butter as you can. This liquid is buttermilk so you can save it for baking or making some pancakes for breakfast :) Once you've gotten the liquid out cut a piece of bread, slather it with your freshly whipped butter and enjoy!
*For an extra treat add some honey or fresh herbs to your butter. Yummy!

hi! My name is Katelyn too! Slight spelling difference;} A friend of mine gave your blog to me and I just love it! What kind of camera do you use for your pictures? They are great. thanks.
Yum - looks delicious! I remember when my sister and I were younger and were studying Little House on the Prairie . . . one of our projects was to make homemade butter. We shook it in a container for what seemed to be a very long time. :) I also remember the great victory of the contents finally becoming thick enough to call "butter" - so gratifying! I think it was pretty good, too!
By the way, your little nook of the web is adorable!
Joyfully in Christ,
Emily Rose
